| This is the shape of phone which would have been originally fitted to the above kiosk, but this one has a later push-button type phone. This one still takes tokens, machines like this are becoming quite rare. | A late 1990's telephone | The latest type phone, which started appearing in Lublin around the beginning of 2001. | |||||||||||||

25 000 payphones
in Poland... TPSA
– Main telecommunication operator in Poland, part of the France Telecom
group – has chosen Ascom for renewing as for now more than a quarter of
its payphones and supervision systems. This contract, valued at over 15
million euros, is a new success for ASCOM Mutlimedia & Pay Systems,
which continues to grow on its markets. Ascom
will supply TPSA with 25 000 eXANTO terminals of the latest
generation and with a solution of supervision based on a centralised
system. This new technology from Ascom will allow the operator to optimise
its operation by switching progressively from magnetic stripe cards to
prepaid chip cards. 4
potential suppliers bided for that international tender. 3 of them
installed and operated their equipment during a one-month Field test
in November 2002. Ascom finally succeeded, by offering upgreadable
terminals and a more powerful supervision system (able to offer Value
Added Services such as SMS and Email sending). The ability to face
harshest local weather conditions (from -25° up to +30°) and their
vandal-proof design have placed these eXANTO terminals in best position. A
renewal market The
renewal market for terminals and supervision systems holds at a reasonable
level, especially in the Eastern countries where a significant effort for
modernisation is taking place. Ascom has already installed almost 40 000 terminals
in Hungary and in Czech Republic, but the most promising perspectives are
in Poland: the network, with approximately 90 000 terminals could,
within 3 to 5 years, be totally renewed. Innovation:
a booster of growth Supported
by constant investments either self-funded or financed on projects, the
innovation strategy of ASCOM MPS division (Multimedia & Pay Systems)
aims at improving its positions on this market of renewal of equipment and
software. The ASCOM offer is clearly positioned in the upper range, in
particular for the supervision systems, whose performance opens the way to
new profitable perspectives with the development of Value Added Services.
As for the terminals, new versions of the eXANTO will soon come to light.
Theywill be characterised through multi-payment features (coin-and-card
payphone), and the introduction of Internet services. Present
in over 70 countries world-wide, the MPS activity continues to
develop on new markets. Ascom
